A Good Book
I picked up a couple books the other day that looked really interesting. I'll just mention the one I'm reading now because I really can't say much about the other one just yet. It's entitled 'Ocean Sea' and it's by an Italian author by the name of Alessandro Barrico (it is a translation, but it's incredibly beautifully written). As any good author must at times, he tends to often ignore the rules of writing one learns in an institution. At times, he stops mid-sentence and at others a single sentence will last the better part of a page. At times, I find myself lost in the beauty of his words and at others I simply find myself lost. To say what it's about is rather difficult, there is no singular storyline. It is perhaps easiest to say that it is about the sea and it's immeasurable vastness. It's about truth, deception, awe, bewilderment, salvation, and perhaps most of all, the dark depths of the human soul. At present, I'd say it reminds me of two books: 'Life of Pi' and 'Heart of Darkness'. However, I'm only part way through so we'll see how it pans out.

Chris, It sounds like this book has spoken to your soul. Sometimes they are the books that will stay with you and significantly affect your life forever.
Your Dad said you are going to ride up north for a vacation. Be safe...I would love to hear more about what it is like to live in China. It must be so different?
I am swamped at work and home but healthy and mostly happy. Be well. Love you,
MOM
Your new book has me interested. Allow me to counter-mention two others which you might have heard of.
Remember when Laurisa was auditioning for the Wizard of Earthsea made for TV movie? Well, the first book in the Earthsea series is outstanding, earthy, powerful... I want to say Aurthurian, but I don't know why... thoughtful and truthful and wonderfuly mythic. I'm happy that there is a series to look forward to. From what Kyra said the script was incredibly far from the books...
The other, also by U.K.LeGuin is called the Telling, a I cannot describe to you what it is about aside to say that it is about the telling of stories, of truth and fiction, and the necessity for doing so. Kyra is reading this one to me (which I guess is quite appropriate).
Keep us posted.
